Mountain Trek Information

The Mountain Trek program is designed specifically for the sons and daughters of Training Center conference participants. These treks coincide with PTC conference schedules, departing on Sunday afternoon and returning Saturday morning.

Mountain Trek crews hike 20 to 30 miles into the backcountry, where participants stay at several camps that offer a variety of exciting programs along with time to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Philmont. Participants are organized into male or female crews, and are supervised by experienced Philmont Mountain Trek Rangers. Groups with fewer than 10 participants may be combined to form a coed crew with both male and female Ranger leadership.

The Mountain Trek program is available to sons and daughters of PTC Conference participants who must:

1. Be 14-17 years of age.

The Mountain Trek program is $785 per participant.

The PSA is looking for adults to help provide Two Deep Leadership during Mountain Treks during the 50th Anniversary Week (July 2nd-8th).  Priority will be given to any parent who has a teen on the Trek, but others will be considered if a parent is not available.  Please contact Shayla Ridgway at marketing@philstaff.org for more information about the cost and schedule if you are interested.

Philmont will provide all crew equipment (including tents, cooking gear, and food). Participants should bring only the equipment on the Mountain Trek Packing List found in the Mountain Trek Guidebook.

After reading the Mountain Trek Guidebook and registering online, Mountain Trek participants are requested to fill out the Mountain Trek Information Form, located in the Guidebook. This form is a useful resource for your Philmont Rangers, who will be separating you into a Mountain Trek Crew, and leading your trek. You may email your form to the Philmont Training Center at Philmont.TrainingCenter@scouting.org or mail completed application to:
